Hi there,
I’m Michael Sitver, and I like to make things. I like to get my hands dirty and build machines, dig into code and design apps and bots, and fiddle with words until they say something I find interesting. I believe strongly in building-as-learning, meeting your heros, and biases-towards-action.
“Unimportant thoughts” is where I write for practice. It’s where I share my kookiest projects, from interesting algorithms to $12 PR stunts. It’s not really meant to be read, but you’re welcome to read it anyway.
I’m a student in political science at University of Chicago, and I expect to graduate in 2019. After that, I have no plans.
Some things I love to make:
- Speeches (Or rather, I like to write them. Delivering them is a skill that needs work).
- Bots (Most recently FictionPal, a tool for helping people read more)
- Newsletters (Most famously Morning Short, another tool for helping people read more)
- Blogs (Like this one, and The App Store Chronicle, my baby from 2011-2015)
- Interviews (…I know, you don’t really ‘make’ an interview. I’ve been blessed to interview some amazing people though, including Brad Stone, Walt Mossberg, and Jaan Tallinn).
- Lists (like CommuteKit, or the list you’re reading)
- Apps (On occasion)
Since I know people love to cite their press clippings, I’ll follow the crowd. I’ve been written about or quoted in various publications, including:
- The Washington Post
- Fox News
- Lifehacker
- Univision
- Breitbart (Yeah, I know)
- Huffington Post (I write there)
- Vice
If you’re a potential employer (or just curious) there’s much more specific/pertinent info on what I’ve done (and for whom) on Michaelsitver.com.
And if you want to contact me directly, the easiest way is just my name at Gmail dot com.
Hope you find this site useful,
Best,
Michael Sitver
